CPD Training

In conjunction with our sister education company, Edukus, a series of CPD level training packages are being prepared for users of the Pergamon and Mystic systems.

We have no ETA yet on when they will be made live yet however, as to qualify for CPD status they need to be confirmed by an external body - we'll keep you updated on progress!

Mystic Conversions

We are very pleased to say that Pergamon users have been converting to Mystic regularly over the last few months - aided by the ability to upload their existing databases directly into the Mystic environment and making them live from the Mystic login page.

Mystic was designed from the very beginning to be an online version of the desktop Pergamon application, duplicating as far as possible the layout, feel and capabilities of its desktop cousin while adding some new features along the way. Existing Pergamon users can therefore upgrade to the online multi-user application and use as many simultaneous logins as they need from both within the organisation and from home and without any additional training required.

While we would love to see as many people move over to Mystic as possible as it helps increase both the ease and speed of support by both Esferico and the regional Library Services, there is of course no pressure to do so - Pergamon Desktop will be supported as long as there are users wanting to use the locally installed systems.

Reader Updates

With the Covid-19 restrictions that have been in place around the country, schools have seen various delays this year in updating their Readership records for students moving up in years, and the new intake records. This can also be a confusing time, as this is typically something that librarians do only once a year and never look at the BISON functions again for another 12 months!

Remember that we are there to help - we can perform the updates for you.

• If you are a desktop user, just send us your data files in an encrypted package and we will send the updated database back to you by return - you may even want to do this at the end of a day, so that the email is waiting for you when you get in the next day.
• If you are a Mystic user, just upload your data files into the BISON facility within Mystic, then drop us a line. We will logon and do the update for you immediately.

Remember that when you ask for your update files, try to get the reader's first and last name, any school admission number, their data of birth and of course their new class - while we can often match readers on name, this is by nature not a unique field! With the DoB and admission number, we can ensure that the reader's match perfectly!

Endlich ist BISON (v1.0x) fertig für die Veröffentlichung und wird ab der ersten Juliwoche auf die Straße gehen. Als Ersatz für alle aktuellen Importeure und Support-Utilities, einschließlich SIMSImporter, PetersImporter, UKMarc und anderen, bietet BISON ein umfangreiches Dienstprogramm, mit dem Sie die Hintergrundverwaltung Ihrer Pergamon-Datenbank durchführen können.

BISONs Funktionen umfassen:

• Dynamic Reader und Item Import / Update für Textdateien mit begrenzter und fester Breite.
• Automatische Erkennung von MARC-Importeinrichtungen.
• Speichern von Voreinstellungen und Vorlagen für gängige Dateien, einschließlich vorgefertigter Voreinstellungen für gängige Anbieter wie SIMS und Peters.
• Verwaltung der Hauptlesergruppen für akademische Änderungen am Jahresende, die nicht durch die Datei bereitgestellt werden.
• Einführung des Pergamon Package Management Systems zur Gruppierung und Nachverfolgung ganzer Katalogsegmente.
• Empfangs- und Rückgabefunktionen für Interbibliotheks-Pakete, z. B. SLS-Buchboxen.
• Bestandskontrolle.

BISON steht den Schulbibliotheksdiensten ab Montag, dem 2. Juli, zur Verfügung. Kurz danach können die Schulkunden zugreifen.
